Access to clean drinking water remains one of the most critical needs in rural Afghanistan. This project funds the drilling of deep wells and installation of hand pumps across 20 villages in Kunduz province, providing safe water to approximately 12,000 people. Each well installation includes a geological survey, community consultation, well drilling to a depth of 40–80 metres, pump installation, a concrete well platform, and the establishment of a local maintenance committee trained in basic repair. The project also includes a water quality testing programme, with samples tested at six-month intervals to ensure ongoing safety. Beneficiary communities contribute labour and materials as part of a cost-sharing model that builds local ownership and long-term sustainability.
