Education is a fundamental right that too many Afghan girls are still denied. This programme supports the operation of community-based learning centres for girls aged 6–18 in 10 villages in Herat province where formal schooling is inaccessible or unavailable. Each centre is staffed by a trained female teacher, provided with curriculum materials, and supported with a small library. Classes run six days a week, covering literacy, numeracy, science, and life skills. Mothers' literacy classes are held in the evenings. The programme currently serves 600 girls and has a waiting list. Expansion funding will allow three additional centres to open, serving an estimated 180 more students. The Foundation works closely with community leaders to ensure the centres are accepted and protected.
